My name is Patrick Nimtz, owner of Go Glow Placard. I have been a truck driver for 17 years. In 2010, I had 2,300 lbs. of corrosive acid on my truck in Albert Lea, MN. The fog was so thick you couldn't
see more then 5 ft. in front of you. Up ahead was a fatal accident, stopping all traffic on the interstate. Next thing I know another tractor trailer blew his horn doing 60 mph. He had taken the inter media and buried his rig into the snow to avoid a collision with me,
he disappeared quickly. I got out to find he was only 20ft from my tractor trailer. He and I both realized if he would have hit me dead on, I along with him would have probably passed away. Not even close to the end of the nightmare!
The 2,300 gallons of corrosive acid would have broken open. All good Samaritans coming to our aid would be standing in a foot of acid without even knowing it! It would be like a Steven King movie. You would go into the fog and come out on your knee caps due
to the acid!
After that near incident, on my way home, I thought to myself, how could I better this situation. Thinking to myself, if he was able to see my trailer easier, through such dense weather, he would have slowed down that much sooner. So that night, I thought of numerous ways to illuminate the placards for the trucking industry. We've toyed with numerous ideas the first being a plasma screen, that was quickly shut down by the DOT. Weeks later, thinking something still needs to be done with this issue, I had found a LED light strip and with the DOT's approval we could border the frames with amber and red LED lights. After months of designs and failures, we now feel we have a product that is more than suitable for our roadways and proudly made in the U.S.A. We feel this will bring back the awareness to the general population and to those around the transporting of hauling hazardous materials. I feel we have more than reached our goal with being able to illuminate in low light and poor weather settings.
